Exo is a South Korean-Chinese boy group based in Seoul. Formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2011, the group debuted in 2012 with twelve members separated into two subgroups, Exo-K (Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun) and Exo-M (Xiumin, Lay, Chen and former members Kris, Luhan and Tao ), performing music in Korean and Mandarin respectively.
Exo’s first album XOXO (2013), which contained the breakthrough hit “Growl”, was a critical and commercial success, winning both Disk Daesang at the 28th Golden Disk Awards and Album of the Year at the 15th Mnet Asian Music Awards. It sold over one million copies, making Exo the best-selling Korean art
ist in twelve years.Subsequent albums and EPs continued with strong sales, and Exo were ranked the most influential celebrity by Forbes Korea Power Celebrity for the year 2014 and 2015. They have been named “the biggest boyband in the world” by media outlets, saying that “EXO are at the forefront of pop domination, with knife-point choreography seamlessly gelled to songs crafted by some of the world’s most gifted writers and producers, honed by their myriad of personalities and talents.”
Kim Jun-myeon (born May 22, 1991), better known by his stage name Suho (meaning “guardian” in Korean), is a South Korean singer and actor. He is a member and the leader of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-unit EXO-K.Suho was officially introduced as the tenth member of Exo on February 15, 2012. The group officially debuted on in April 2012 with the extended play Mama.
In 2013, Suho voiced the main character Bernard for the Korean dub of the animated movie, Saving Santa. He also recorded the movie’s original soundtrack of the same name with Apink’s Jung Eun-ji.
In February 2014, Suho became a regular host for SBS’s weekly music show Inkigayo alongside fellow Exo member Baekhyun, ZE:A member Kwanghee and actress Lee Yu-bi. Suho and Baekhyun left the position in November 2014 in order to focus on the release of Exo’s second studio album.
Kim Min-seok (born March 26, 1990), better known by his stage name Xiumin, is a South Korean singer and actor. He is best known as a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO, its sub-group EXO-M, and its sub-unit EXO-CBX.
In February 2016, Xiumin was featured in AOA member Jimin’s solo single “Call You Bae”, and appeared in its music video.In July 2016, he made his big screen debut alongside Yoo Seung-ho in the South Korean film Seondal: The Man Who Sells the River. In August 2016, he collaborated with fellow Exo members Chen, and Baekhyun on an original soundtrack titled “For You” for the television series Moon Lovers:
Scarlet Heart Ryeo.In October 2016, together with Chen and Baekhyun, Xiumin became a member of Exo’s first official sub unit EXO-CBX. The group made their debut with the extended play Hey Mama! on October 31.
Zhang Yixing ; born October 7, 1991), better known as Lay , is a Chinese singer-songwriter, record producer, author, dancer, and actor. He is a member and the main dancer of the South Korean-Chinese boy group Exo and its sub-unit Exo-M.He first became known after participating in the Chinese TV talent show Star Academy in
2005. In January 2015, Lay was ranked 5th on Baidu’s “2014 Top 10 Most Popular Celebrities” list. In September 2015, he released his autobiography titled Standing Firm at 24, which broke several online book records. In July 2016,Lay was appointed by the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) of Changsha as the publicity ambassador, the first celebrity to hold such title. On October 28, 2016, Lay released his mini album Lose Control in both South Korea and China. The EP was a commercial success peaking at number 1 on the Gaon Album Chart.
Byun Baek-hyun (born May 6, 1992), better known mononym as Baekhyun, is a South Korean singer and actor. He is a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO, its sub-group EXO-K and sub-unit EXO-CBX.
In August 2016, Baekhyun made his small screen debut with a supporting role in the SBS historical drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, a South Korean adaptation of the Chinese novel Bu Bu Jing Xin. For his performance in the drama he received a New Star Award at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards.He also collaborated with fellow Exo members Chen and Xiumin on an original soundtrack for the series titled “For You”. In October 2016, together with Chen and Xiumin, Baekhyun became a member of Exo’s first official sub unit EXO-CBX. Their debut extended play Hey Mama! was released on October 31.In November 2016, Baekhyun began participating in S.M. Entertainment’s League of Legends tournament “2016 S.M. Super Celeb League”, where he and labelmate Heechul playdc the game with both professional players and fans from South Korea and China.
Kim Jong-dae (born September 21, 1992), better known by his stage name Chen, is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actor. He is a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-unit EXO-CBX, as well as S.M Entertainment’s ballad group SM the Ballad.
In January 2016, Chen performed John Lennon’s song “Imagine” with world-renowned pianist Steve Barakatt at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, as part of UNICEF’s “Imagine Project.” In February 2016, Chen and South Korean singer Punch released a duet titled “Everytime” as a soundtrack for the KBS drama Descendants of the Sun.The song debuted at number one on Gaon’s weekly digital chart. In April 2016, Chen and South Korean rapper Heize released “Lil’ Something”, a song produced by Vibe member Ryu Jae-hyun, as the ninth weekly single of S.M. Entertainment’s Station music project. In August 2016, Chen collaborated with fellow Exo members Xiumin and Baekhyun on an original soundtrack titled “For You” for the SBS drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.In October 2016, he collaborated with DJ Alesso on another song for the Station project titled “Years”.Later in October, together with Baekhyun and Xiumin, Chen became a member of Exo’s first official sub unit EXO-CBX. The group made their debut with the extended play Hey Mama!
In January 2017, Chen collaborated with Dynamic Duo in a song titled “Nosedive”, becoming the first artist to be featured in the group’s collaboration project “Mixxxture”. The song reached number two on the Gaon Digital Chart. In February 2017, he released an original soundtrack titled “I’m Not Okay” for the MBC drama Missing 9 in which his fellow EXO member Chanyeol played a supporting role.
Park Chan-yeol (born November 27, 1992), better known by the mononym Chanyeol, is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter and actor. He debuted in 2012 as a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-unit EXO-K.
Chanyeol became the last Exo member to be officially introduced to the public on February 23, 2012. The group official debuted on April 8, 2012 with the extended play Mama. In April 2012, he made a guest appearance in Girls’ Generation-TTS’s music video for their debut single “Twinkle”. In October 2013, Chanyeol joined the cast of SBS’s reality TV show Law of the Jungle during its filming in Micronesia. He also composed and recorded an original soundtrack titled “Last Hunter” for the show.
Do Kyung-soo (born January 12, 1993), better known by his stage name D.O., is a South Korean singer and actor. Best known as a member and one of the main vocalists of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO, D.O. has also starred in the films Pure Love (2016) and My Annoying Brother (2016).
In January 2016, D.O. was announced as one of the cast of voice actors for the feature-length animated film The Underdog, which is slated to premiere in 2017. He will voice Moongchi, a stray dog who is separated from his owner.In February 2016, he collaborated with Yoo Young-jin on a duet titled “Tell Me (What Is Love)” for S.M. Entertainment’s Station music project. He had previously performed a short version of the song as a solo performance throughout Exo’s first concert tour. Later in February, D.O. starred as the male lead alongside actress Kim So-hyun in the romantic film Pure Love.
Kim Jong-in (born January 14, 1994), better known as Kai, is a South Korean singer and actor. He is a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub unit EXO-K.
Kai was the first EXO member to be formally introduced to the public on December 23, 2011.He made first televised performance alongside fellow EXO members Luhan, Chen and Tao as well as other S.M. Entertainment artists at the year-end music program SBS Gayo Daejeon on December 29, 2011. The group officially debuted in April 2012 and has since gained significant popularity and commercial success.
In January 2016, he made his official acting debut as the male lead in the web drama Choco Bank,which achieved record-breaking viewership. In December 2016, he starred in two episodes of the special web drama First Seven Kisses which was produced by Lotte Duty Free.
In January 2017, Kai was announced to be starring as the male lead in the upcoming KBS drama Andante, playing a high school student In February 2017, he was cast in the upcoming Japanese drama Spring Has Come based on the Japanese novel of the same name. The drama marks the first time a non-Japanese actor taking a lead role on a drama produced by the broadcasting station WOWOW.
Oh Se-hun (born April 12, 1994), better known mononymously as Sehun, is a South Korean singer and actor. He is a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-group EXO-K.
In February 2016, Sehun received a Weibo Star Award as voted by users of the Chinese social networking site Sina Weibo at the 5th Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards. In March 2016, Sehun was cast as the male lead in the upcoming Korean-Chinese movie Catman,which is set to be released in 2017. In July 2016, Sehun was announced to be starring as the male lead in the upcoming Korean-Chinese web drama Dear Archimedes, which is set to begin airing in 2017.
Lu Han (born April 20, 1990), better known by the mononym Luhan, is a Chinese singer and actor. He is a former member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-group EXO-M, having terminated his contract with S.M. Entertainment and left the group in October 2014. That year, he was ranked the sixth most popular entertainment star in China by China National Radio.
Luhan is active in China as a solo artist and actor. He released his solo debut album, Reloaded in 2015; and has starred in several box office hits such as 20 Once Again (2015), The Witness (2015) and Time Raiders (2016). In 2017, he made his drama debut in Fighter of the Destiny.
Wu Yifan ( born November 6, 1990), professionally known as Kris Wu or Kris, is a Chinese-born Canadian actor, singer, and model. He is active as a solo artist and actor in China and has starred in several #1 box office hits including Mr. Six and Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back, which are among the highest-grossing Chinese films of all time in China. He made his Hollywood debut in xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017).Kris was introduced as the eleventh member of EXO on February 17, 2012.
Huang Zitao (born May 2, 1993), better known as Tao, is a Chinese rapper, singer-songwriter, actor, and martial artist. He is a former member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-group EXO-M[ , having filed a lawsuit against S.M. Entertainment and left the group in 2015. That year, he made his solo debut with the three-track, digitally released mini-album T.A.O, under the new stage name Z.Tao.This debut album proceeded to break digital sales records by selling a total of 670,000 copies within its first week of release.
